Jayden the Rockhound...

Jayden's rock collection is on display at the 

Eugene Public Library for the month of February.

She spent nearly an hour setting it up, just the way she wanted it.

  She did an amazing job.  The librarians were really impressed too.  

She was so proud that they came over one at a time, to see her rocks.

My preschool class took a field trip to the Library to check out books 

and they got to see the Jayden's display.  They were so excited!

Our little Rockhound!

Jayden has become a total rockhound!  She's constantly looking for unique and interesting rocks or crystals.

She has a really neat collection started and is learning all kinds of things along the way...  her Auntie Liz and Uncle Keith sent her a neat mining kit for her birthday.  

Jayden has polished her first set of rocks in her new rock tumbler and is excited to make jewelry out of them.  It was very neat to see her and Grandpa huddled together looking up each of her different treasures.  

As her collection gets larger so does the number of random rocks we find all over the house.  Twice there have been rocks in our garbage disposal, and countless times her rocks have been found in the washer or dryer.

However, upon closer examination it is amazing to see her excitement and ongoing fascination with all her discoveries.  As she gets older, I hope that she's able to hold on to her love of this fun new hobby.

Camping and The High Desert Museum

Last month we took a trip over near Bend, OR and went camping.
OK, so we borrowed an RV, and stayed at a resort.  But, still, it was heavenly!

The girls were fascinated by the hundreds of prairie dogs that were everywhere.  They enjoyed trying to feed them and most of all, chasing them back into their millions of holes!

Jayden, our little rock hound, searched high and low for cool and interesting rocks.  She loved all the lava rock in the area and added many new rocks to her growing collection.

While we were there we also went to visit the High Desert Museum.

Feeding the fish in the stream was really fun.  However, the second we put a quarter in the machine and started to turn the handle a little chipmunk came running toward us and wanted the fish food!  Of course, Sierra kept asking if she could pet the chipmunk.

The girls favorite thing at the museum was the porcupine.  Or as Sierra told her sister last night, "I didn't poke you.  I'm not a poke-u-pine."
